You can store the oil bottle in a dry cupboard away from light until the date indicated on the bottle

Hello, no need to keep it cool ;)

Personally, I keep it away from light simply. If you want peace of mind, put it in the fridge. But it's not necessary.

I do not keep it refrigerated after opening, just in a cupboard.

Hello, the breeder who sold us our Samoyed advised us to give him a salmon oil TREATMENT TWICE a YEAR. I imagine the ideal would be to give it during the shedding periods since he sheds twice a year. But I would like to know for how long we should give him that? For example, once every day for a month? 2 or 3 teaspoons knowing that his ideal weight is 20 kg? Thank you in advance to the kind people who will take the time to answer my questions!

Hello, know that salmon oil is very good for us four-legged animals but not all the time because salmon oil is still fatty and therefore can be very bad for our four-legged animals over time. I recommend giving it once or twice a week during shedding and a maximum of once a week the rest of the year. I have been giving my puppy salmon oil once a week for 7 months now, one teaspoon at a time. There are other alternatives if you want; all Omega-3-based oils are good but not every day. After that, during shedding, have them groomed and brush your dog throughout the year, especially during shedding periods.

Good evening, I have 2 dogs. I give them salmon oil every day mixed with their kibble, two teaspoons in their kibble. Have a good evening.

Hello, Everything is going well with my 1-year-old Lhasa Apso dog. I don't know if it's because she's greedy, but she certainly enjoys it. For the kibble that she doesn't want to eat, I found a solution to get her to consume them. I add a capful of oil, and the kibble is eaten in no time.

My dogs and cats loved it, but I had to stop for one of my dogs because it was giving him diarrhea....

2 messages
alyssa

There are doses behind in teaspoons, if there is too much oil in the long term it's not good

2 messages
alyssa

Stop for a few days, and then resume by reducing the amounts of oil.

Indeed, salmon oil is great for flavoring kibble; moreover, it provides essential nutrients! My 9-year-old shepherd dog loves it! In fact, it's essential for her, every morning with her kibble and 2 harpagophytum, to avoid any locomotion issues due to her age, weight, and large size! My vet approves 200 percent!
2 messages
véronique

What do you mean by 2 harpagophytum? I am going to start using salmon oil for my 10-year-old golden retriever who had tendon surgery, and I am looking for gentle aids to help him age well. There is so much information on this site that I probably missed something. Have a great day!

Hello, if your dog doesn't particularly enjoy the kibble you offer, you might want to consider changing it instead of adding salmon oil, as your dog may start expecting it at every meal.

Same for my Cavalier King Charles; when I put it on the kibble, it's even worse than plain.

For my dog, I stopped giving him salmon oil because he had liver problems. According to the vet, it was advisable to stop it as a precaution.

Hello, my 1-liter bottle lasted about 3 months with 3 pumps per day. My dog has beautiful fur with this, it's really the best oil. I initially used it as an appetite stimulant and it works well.

I bought it, my dog loves it, but I would like to know: if I take 2 bottles of 1L... one would be opened at my place, the other at my parents' to avoid transportation. How long and what's the expiration date when opened...

Oil very much appreciated by my 8-month-old Argentine Dogo, 1 liter lasted me 2 months, I put quite a bit in each meal.
3 messages
jacques

To be honest, since I give a spoonful every day for a very specific reason or rather two reasons: the first is to make the coat shine, the second is because the meat I give isn't fatty enough, I consume the bottle very quickly and only do treatments. Sorry I can't answer, but in my opinion, if well sealed, the bottle should last 3 or 4 months.

Thank you Zoomalia, but your response does not provide any information about its composition. From what I know from a dog trainer, salmon oil is a dietary supplement and should not be used for a young and healthy dog.

Hello, 100% salmon oil, that's all it says, and the dosage is in very small print on the side of the bottle. Regarding effectiveness, I can't say anything; none of my cats wanted to have it again after tasting it. :-(

Hello, I am by no means a specialist, but I rely on the properties of omega 3 and 6 unsaturated fatty acids. So for my last 3 Braque and Greyhound dogs (30 Kg), I give salmon oil in the winter, 1 teaspoon per 2 daily meals. I aim for anti-inflammatory properties for the skin, joints, and cold resistance. Additionally, it is undeniable that the kibble becomes more appetizing for the animal to change things up a bit. Not in large quantities, just a simple dietary supplement. A fairly inexpensive product used in small amounts, so there is little risk since it is 100%. JC

Thank you for your responses; I hope it is 100% salmon oil, as I intend to order it for the health of my chihuahua who has a heart problem and would benefit from the advantages this oil can provide. I will check and consult a health food store first. Thank you.

Good evening, it's not good to give oil at every meal, either in the morning or in the evening. For my part, my little 9-month-old German Shepherd gets 2cc in the evening and that's more than enough, he has a beautiful coat and eats heartily.

jean-luc

Hello, I can't give you an answer for your Malou. I can simply tell you that I give my 12 kg Border Collie a teaspoon of salmon oil per day (mixed with kibble) which I alternate with other oils, like olive/coconut, for example. Apparently, the results are good for his fragile joints (in addition to 2 osteopathy sessions per year). Best regards.

My French bulldog loves salmon oil; it helps keep her fur shiny and also reduces shedding, which works great as there's less fur around the house. I only give it to her with her kibble in the evening, just a teaspoon on top. I've been giving it to her for two years.

Hello everyone, Salmon oil is rich in omega 3 and 6. My dog and my cat both apparently enjoy it. There's little risk of nutritional imbalance.

Hello, I realize that our 7-month-old Cane Corso only accepts eating her kibble when we put this oil on it. She weighs 27 kilos, so we dose about 18ml/day. Am I wrong in the quantity? Can I give it to her every day all year round? Thank you for your answers.

Hello, The quantity is suitable for your dog. You can give this supplement daily, it poses no health problem for your pet. Best regards, The Zoomalia team

To questions regarding daily use: I would simply say that with a dog or puppy that has an initially suitable, fairly good quality diet, and "normal" activity for its breed and age, there is no need to add oil daily. Oil is beneficial as an occasional addition or to change the flavor of kibble and vary the experience. Giving it every day is really not necessary (and not necessarily recommended, by the way). Don’t risk weight gain or an overload of various elements, that's not the goal. If the diet and activity are appropriate, the dog should normally have nice enough fur (and/or skin) without needing supplements. If there are no joint problems either, there's no need for daily supplementation. And for anxiety: personally, I believe that it should be addressed through education and socialization, not food. In short: oil is very useful for those who feed their dogs a BARF diet and need to calculate dosages of everything. For those who feed kibble: First, find kibble that works well in terms of coat condition, digestion, and energy, then use salmon oil occasionally. Several ranges of kibble are more than complete and "calculated" enough so that deficiencies that would make oil mandatory are not a concern. Ensure your kibble isn't lacking in Omega 3 and fatty acids, and everything will be fine with just a bit of oil, more for enjoyment than real necessity. :)

Hello, I have a 15-month-old Swiss White Shepherd. We've had to change his kibble several times because either he turns his nose up at it to the point of almost not eating for 3 to 4 days (he'll eat around 200 to 400 grams), his skin becomes bright pink, or his fur turns completely orange (not ideal for a Swiss White Shepherd). Recently, we found some kibble that was okay, but he started to get bored with the taste. So we stayed within the same range but changed the flavor, and recently, his coat and skin have become dry. For about 3 weeks now, he's been scratching a lot, biting his paws to the point of almost having no hair on the paws and flanks in certain areas. Do you think I could give him this oil to see if it’s just due to his dry skin, or would it be better to switch directly to Royal Canin Dermacomfort or even hypoallergenic kibble? Thank you in advance, Céline

zoomalia

Hello, You can indeed put salmon oil on your dog's daily kibble ration. Rich in essential fatty acids, it will help cleanse the skin and restore supple and shiny fur. However, if dermatological problems persist, we recommend consulting your veterinarian to identify the precise cause of these issues and relieve your dog's itching. Best regards, The Zoomalia team

Hello, my 11-year-old cat has just tested positive for FIV. I would like to know if it is recommended to regularly give him salmon oil for his immune defenses, knowing that he also has kidney failure (I give him renal kibble). Thank you in advance for your response.
11381 messages
zoomalia

Hello, Salmon oil is a 100% natural dietary supplement that strengthens the immune system, improves the coat, and provides energy to a healthy animal. In principle, there are no contraindications to giving this product. However, in the case of an animal with health problems, we strongly recommend seeking advice from your veterinarian, as they alone are qualified to give you a response tailored to your animal's case. Best regards, The Zoomalia team

Hello, can we give salmon oil to a kitten? Thank you for your response.
11381 messages
zoomalia

Hello, Salmon oil is a natural product that you can give to a kitten. However, it is not necessary if it already has a balanced kitten diet and no specific problems. You can give it occasionally to enhance the taste of its kibble, but be careful not to overdose. Best regards, The Zoomalia Team

Hello. I read that salmon oil can be given several times a week, but how much at a time? Can it be given even to a somewhat "chubby" cat that eats low-fat kibble? Thank you!
11381 messages
zoomalia

Hello, Salmon oil can be given either year-round for maintenance 2 to 3 times a week, or in regular courses several times a year (for example, during a change of seasons). The recommended amounts are indicated on the bottle and vary according to the animal's weight. Salmon oil does not cause weight gain as long as the quantities are suitable for the animal; it is rich in essential fatty acids that will not be stored but instead transformed to strengthen the immune system, improve the coat, etc... Sincerely, The Zoomalia Team

Hello, Would it be possible to have the % of omega 3, EPA, and DHA contained in this product? I wish to use it for my Eurasier, as he scratches a lot due to his relatively significant hair loss throughout the year. Thank you in advance for your response.
