Frequently Asked Questions about Crau Hay for Rabbits and Rodents

What is the uniqueness of Crau hay?

Crau Hay is an exceptional product, the first animal feed to have obtained the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) in 1997. Grown exclusively in the Crau plain, in the Bouches-du-Rhône in Provence, this hay benefits from a unique terroir and ancestral know-how.

Its uniqueness lies in its exceptional botanical richness: it is composed of about twenty natural forage species (grasses, legumes, and various plants), 27 of which are part of the official PDO composition. This diversity gives it remarkable nutritional qualities.

The gravity-fed irrigation system, initiated in the 16th century by Adam de Craponne, provides the meadows with water rich in alluvial silt that naturally enriches the soil with minerals. This traditional cultivation method, without pesticides or GMOs, combined with the Provençal climate ideal for natural drying, guarantees a premium quality hay particularly suited to the nutritional needs of your small pets.

What is the price of Crau hay?

What is the composition of Crau Hay?

PDO Crau Hay presents a rich and varied botanical composition, with more than 20 different plant species, including:

- Main species: clover, cocksfoot, meadow fescue;
- Secondary species: fescue, plantain, dandelion, alfalfa, vetch.

Its nutritional composition is particularly balanced:

- Minerals: rich in calcium (11-13 g/kg), magnesium (2.5-4 g/kg), potassium (13-17 g/kg), and phosphorus (3-4 g/kg); - Crude protein: about 81 g/kg;
- Crude fiber: about 27 g/kg (lower than classic hays, making it very digestible);
- Moisture: 9% (ensuring excellent preservation) This exceptional composition makes it an ideal feed for rabbits, rodents, and other domestic herbivores, particularly recommended for young growing animals due to its richness in minerals and optimal digestibility.
